I used to play an Explorer guitar made by Melvyn Hiscock who went on to write the definitive book on electric guitar making called Make Your Own Electric Guitar (I get a mention in the acknowledgments).
Melvyn also used to bring prototypes for me to test at gigs, this usually meant swinging them around my head and smashing them up, this was done to test the construction and it made a wonderful noise as well.
Sadly (or luckily) I have no photos of VD (as we were affectionately known) we disbanded around 1980
